Insanely overpriced rents, wages that oft times don't coincide with those rent$ , lousy public transportation, large segments given over to tourism, quota summonses and stop and frisk policies by NYPD BOO, the mercy killing of any real nightlife, the gentrification of anyplace black and brown people can still afford to  live....

 I hop into my spaceship  of the imagination ,  leave NYC light years behind and the above mentioned are all of the things I will not miss!!

What I will have a fore longing for is one of the Big Apple's most endearing,  wonderful qualities. You can live in a building for over a decade and barely speak to or even know any of your neighbors. 

I've lived in the same  ill managed wohnung for over 15 years and the high turnover of  hipsters, miscreants, weirdoes and fellow grumpsters have one thing in common,  A  very labored, barely audible "Hi"from them is as much interaction I've had with all but a few.  #LoveIT


That is one thing that will me missed when I can scrape together enough shekels and take my talents to.....

The Sixth Sense: Let's be completely honest about Lebron James once and for all!

Not only did Lebron James match the expectations people had of him coming out of high school, he surpassed them by leaps and bounds! 

The great Oscar Robinson aside, I don't know if there has ever been a more complete and dominating player than LJ.

*On Robinson,

people with short term memories seem to forget how many double - doubles the Big O may have racked up, mainly because stats weren't kept as meticulously as they are now and there was no ESPN or Sports Center around when Robinson was taking names and giving opponents   _The Business_

Lebron does so many things at such a high level on BOTH ends of the floor.

Running the point, passing, scoring and defending, shot blocking....

I know it's blasphemy for many but not even #23 was the point forward or passer #6 is. 

Strength, speed, power athleticism? There were players that matched James in some of those categories but NONE IN ALL FOUR! 

 Lebron detractors, have their had abilities to asses his skills blurred by resentment ( some people still can't let go of THE DECISION) and they continue to  reminisce over their favorite players of the past / present  through rose colored glasses. 

And the championship ring argument? Ninja please. You can NOT equate basketball greatness solely on  the number NBA titles. If true marginal players on Championship teams who've made marginal contributions are greater players than Miller, Barkley, Ewing, Malone, Webber, Wilkins, Stockton....

You see where I'm going with this. And if rings were the sole determiner of basketball greatness, the GOAT is Mr Bill Russell when you consider the fact that he has every player beat by a nearly 2-1 margin with ELEVEN CHAMPIONSHIPS! Why then is he rarely mentioned in the same conversation with Jordan, Bird  and Magic except by people who really appreciate the game and what Russell has  accomplished?

One of the reasons is that rings are the ultimate goal but not a solitary factor for determining basketball greatness.

Lebron may never  get 11 rings like B.R or even 6 they way Jordan did but he also never had the consistent (key word) help from team mates and role players that those gentlemen had on a game to game basis.

If he retired today and decided he wanted to be the world's tallest soccer or tennis player, LJ's is already a lock for one of the top 6 players of all time and as far as raw talent and ability, probably #1.

The pitfalls of many loves and really High Soapbox.

Last year I was fishing around looking for new Podcast to listen to and I came across some shows on Polyamory. Polyamory or "many loves"-  is a lifestyle choice that apparently centers around a lot of communicating, communicating, and more "Communicating."

When does the fucking come into play?

Anywho,  IMO Poly also seems to be a choice made by people who consistently want to fuck other people (Hey, nothing wrong with that) but who also need a lofty,  long winded philosophy in order to avoid being called promiscuous or slut shamed.

*A term by the way that I detests with most of but not all of the fibers of my being.

And as an avid weightlifter, I've got some thick ass fibers-

The Poly shows I listened to were mostly drenched in unacknowledged selfishness (interestingly enough mostly from the females) and a lot of chatter about how monogamy wasn't natural in the animal kingdom and is therefore not natural for us.

Now lookie here --
There are a lot of practices in the animal world that we would deem deleterious for homo sapiens.

*Imagine a guy who wanted a particular female and killing off her children from a previous partner so that he is ONLY providing for his offspring. Lions and Tigers... Don't know about Bears....

*What about a child who at the age of fourteen (old enough to physically fend for one self) waking up to find their mother gone and NEVER seeing her again. Happens with many parent / offspring relationships in the wild.

Calling monogamy UNNATURAL for humans  just because animals don't practice it is ridiculous and it's no more or less valid a choice for a relationship between people than is polyamory.

Supposedly the strain of being monogamous is the biggest cause of breakups for 1 on 1 relationships yet all four couples that hosted podcasts on Polyamory broke up within about a year of having started their shows.

Whatever couplings work between consenting adults is Kool N The Gang, just don't act like your choice is better cause you ain't Sway and....

I saw a clip of Elizabeth Warren ( maybe our last, best hope) mention that if the constant wage freezes since the early eighties hadn't been enacted, the minimum wage would be approximately $15 per hour now.

What a wonderful world it would be! (My Satchmo is pretty good.)

All the costs of living have increased over the last few decades. And our wages? Forever frozen in Corbonite with no Master Jedi on the horizon coming to our rescue! Hopefully the work of Warren and others like her may bring us closer to where we should be as far as salaries but much of my optimism has been crushed after the painful realization that many with seemingly good intentions (including an historical President elect) turn out to be nothing more than "politicians"with every negative connotation associated with the word.


Guess we'll have to keep our eyes open and  patiently await someone who really will break the mold. Perhaps someone with a very high Midichlorian count....
